Will Starlink provide free Internet?

What is Starlink?

Starlink is a satellite or constellation that gives high-speed and low latency broadband internet service. It was manufactured by SpaceX. Elon Musk is the CEO of SpaceX and the second richest person in the world. Starlink's aim is to provide good internet not only in urban areas but also in rural areas at a low price. Latency is the time taken to transfer data from the source to the destination. When a satellite is far from the earth, then latency is high, that is why the Starlink satellite is 60 times closer than earth from an ordinary satellite. Low Latency gives us high performance in activities like Video calling and online gaming. More than 10,000 users use this service, and many users sign up to get Starlink Internet service. So, in early summer, they could exit the beta version.

Where to get Starlink Internet Service?

Currently, the Starlink Beta version is only available in the United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA), and Canada. To know the approximate Arrival Date of this service in your area, go to Starlink and add your address. They will tell you if this service is available in your area or not, and if it is unavailable, then they will tell the approximate date when Starlink will arrive in your rea. This service is based on a first-come, first-served service. You have to pay a refundable deposit of  $99  to reserve a spot. Elon Musk and his company SpaceX are trying to put more satellites into orbit.

Will Starlink provide free Internet?

Starlink provides free internet service in a rural school district in Texas. Forty-Five families in Texas are getting free internet that does not have broadband service. In the future, they will expand to 90 more families in that area. You have to pay a one-time $499 for WIFI-router, power supply, cables, mounting tripod, and satellite dish.

How fast is Starlink?

Currently, around 1300 satellites are in orbit and want to send more than 42,000 satellites to cover all over the earth. Beta users of Starlink get speed ranges from 50 Mb/s to 150 Mb/s and latency ranges from 20 ms to 40ms. As they launch more satellites, they will install more ground stations, and will improve networking software, the data speed, latency, and uptime will also increase. In February, Elon Musk promised that the speed of the internet will be doubled, and latency will also be decreased by the end of 2021. Even in the snow, high winds, and freezing temperatures, the internet speed will be more than 175 Mbps. The company’s long-term goal is to send thousands of satellites, which will increase the downloading speed up to 1 Gbps and then 10 Gbps.

Starlink could be fully mobile

At the end of this year, Starlink could be fully mobile. In March 2021, Elon Musk filed a request to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) to go fully mobile. Fully mobile means that the users will be able to use Starlink Internet services from one address to another. They could move the hardware wherever they want even in the moving vehicle. In the beta version, the user will not be able to move the hardware.
